The watercolor artwork entitled, The Imprinted Brain by Portland, Oregon artist, Collin Murphy, depicts the expression of maternally (pink) and paternally (blue) imprinted genes in the brain. The recent study by Byars et al. supports the imprinted brain theory of Badcock and Crespi. It postulates that autism spectrum (AS) and schizophrenia spectrum (SS) disorders are the antithesis of each other, and result from the skewing of the paternally and maternally imprinted gene expressions normally present in the brain during development.
